Job purpose

Key responsibilities

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree typical. CIPD Level 5 (Associate) minimum, Level 7 (Chartered) preferred at senior HRBP level. Specific employment law qualifications valuable.

Experience

HR Advisor: 2-4 years. HR Business Partner: 5-8 years generalist experience. Senior HRBP: 8-12 years with strategic partnership experience. Head of HR / People Director: 12+ years.

UK salary ranges

Junior

£35,000-£50,000 HR Advisor

Mid-level

£55,000-£80,000 HR Business Partner

Senior

£85,000-£130,000+ Senior HRBP / Head of HR

Working pattern

UK HRBP roles typically hybrid (2-3 days office, especially when supporting in-person leadership teams). London-heavy concentration. Standard hours with occasional intensity around restructures, executive transitions, or critical employee relations cases.

Career progression

HR Advisor → HR Business Partner → Senior HRBP → Head of HR → People Director / VP People → Chief People Officer. Specialisation paths: talent, organisational development, reward, employee relations.

UK HRBP JDs often try to span generalist (ER + talent + performance + change) plus specialist depth.
