Senior Management CV Personal Statement Examples (UK 2026)
Why this matters
Senior hires are made on track record, scope, and judgement, not skills. The personal statement at senior level is read by hiring committees, board members, and chairs as well as recruiters — multiple stakeholders with different filters. The strongest senior personal statements pass all three: clear scope (recruiter), concrete outcomes (CEO), strategic positioning (board).

How to write yours — step by step
- 1 Lead with the current role and scope — team size, budget, P&L if relevant
- 2 Quantify outcomes from the most recent role — revenue, growth, costs, headcount
- 3 Mention earlier roles by company name if recognisable, by role/sector if not
- 4 Surface your distinctive expertise — sector, function, scale, situation
- 5 Close with what you're seeking — level, scope, sector
- 6 Keep it 120-180 words — senior statements warrant more context than junior
- 7 Avoid vague leadership language — 'inspired teams' and 'drove results' add nothing
Common mistakes
- ✗Using vague leadership platitudes — strong language at senior level is concrete
- ✗Listing every role over 20 years — focus on the last 2-3 strongly
- ✗Hiding scope — team size and budget are what hiring committees filter on
- ✗Targeting up — 'CEO ready' from a Director-level CV reads as overconfident
- ✗Generic close — 'open to opportunities' weakens the entire statement
Recruiter pro tip
Senior personal statements are often read by people who knew you tangentially or who know your former colleagues. The statement should be defensible to those informal references — what you claim should match what your former boss would say. Inflated personal statements get caught at backchannel reference stage and the offer gets pulled. The strongest senior candidates write statements that are slightly understated relative to their references — gives them upside in the conversation.
